About the SCRS Research Continuity Grants

The first pilot call will provide six institutional grants of up to USD 2,000 each to eligible researchers based at recognized universities or research institutes in Africa. The grants are designed to help researchers resume or complete a clearly defined part of interrupted research, preserve valuable data and scientific capacity, and strengthen the resilience of research systems in crisis-affected settings.

Eligibility criteria of SCRS Research Continuity Grants

  • Be an African national affiliated with a recognised university or research institute located in Africa.
  • Hold at least a master’s degree or an equivalent recognised research qualification in a relevant field.
  • Work in the natural sciences, including within an interdisciplinary framework with a substantial natural sciences component.
  • Demonstrate that research has been interrupted by armed conflict or a natural or biological hazard within the last three years, or that its repercussions are still significantly affecting the work.
  • Propose activities that can be completed within a maximum of six months, with a budget not exceeding 2 000 USD.
  • Provide a letter of support signed by an authorised representative of the host institution.
  • Confirm that the same expenses are not funded by another source.

Applications from all African countries meeting the crisis-related criteria are eligible. Women scientists, researchers under 40 and those from Africa’s least developed countries or small island developing states are particularly encouraged to apply.

Eligible expenses of SCRS Research Continuity Grants

  • Consumables and small research supplies.
  • Local fieldwork and research-related travel.
  • Data collection, processing and secure storage.
